There continues to be an emergency need for donors of all blood types, especially type O, to give now to address a severe blood shortage. Red Cross blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in, and right now there is less than a five-day blood supply on hand. All eligible donors are urgently needed to give now to help replenish the blood supply. Make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

August 3rd Friday

The summer concert series Sundown at the Shell presents Emma Ruddock, Hemma and Matt Hannah at the Rice Lake Veterans Memorial/City Park band shell. Live music along with food, family fun and lawn games starts at 7 p.m. The event is free.

Friday at Noon the Rice Lake Public Library will host author Jim Adams to talk about his book “Other Me’s” Other Me's is a detailed, personal account of how one man and his family dealt with the effects of Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinson's Disease during the last two years of his wife Diane's life.


August 5th Sunday

The American Legion Breakfast Buffet is Sunday from 8a-11a at the Rice Lake Veterans Center. All you care to eat biscuits & gravy, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, and more. The public is always welcome.


August 7th Tuesday

Jim Gill will be performing at 1:30pm at the Rice Lake Elks Club.  Get ready to sing, clap, dance and sneeze along during this visit by award-winning musician and author Jim Gill.  Jim Gill’s distinctive music play creates the spirit of a family room in the concert hall and is an invitation to children, parents and grandparents to sing and play together!

August 7th Tuesday

The Island City Music Series continues Tuesday night with Bare Minimum. The free concert on Library Lake is from 6p-8p. Food will be served by the Barronett Civic Club from its Little Red Caboose. The school district’s kayaks are available on concert nights. There is no charge for using the kayaks, but donations to the Island City Academy are appreciated. Sue Bridger, community education director, asks that you reserve kayas by calling her at 715-822-5121, ext. 403, or by emailing her at sbrid@csdmail.com. You should bring your own lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

August 9th Thursday

The Rice Lake Elks Lodge will host the Dean’s List Summer Concert on Thursday from 6p-9p. There will be a cash bar, event menu with hors d'oeuvres buffet for $15. No admission fee with free will offerings benefitting Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary. Doors open at 5p. The Rice Lake Elks Lodge is located at 36 East Eau Claire Street. Please call 715-234-2951 to make reservations for this event.


August 11th Saturday

Holy Trinity Church at Haugen is having a Kolache and other item Bake Sale at the Haugen Village Hall on Saturday from 7am-11am in conjunction with Haugen’s Centennial celebration during Haugen Fun Days. If you love their featured kolaches or other tasty homemade goodies– this is the place for you.


August 11th-12th Saturday-Sunday

A celebration of the Village of Haugen, Wisconsin's 100th anniversary as an incorporated municipality is happening Saturday and Sunday during Haugen Fun Days.  In commemoration of the anniversary, a book detailing highlights of the village's history with many historic pictures will be on sale for $5 each at the Haugen Area Historical Museum (311 Third St.) starting 10a on Saturday.  In addition, special commemorative coins will also be on sale for $10 each. August 12th Sunday

The Strickland Chicken Dinner hosted by the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church is on Sunday from 11a-2p. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids six to nine, with kids five and younger free. Plus there are games for adults and kids, raffle, country store, and refreshments. Outdoor mass starts at 10a.


August 12th Sunday

The volunteer-staffed Elks Lodge Breakfast is on Sunday from 8a-11a. Volunteers are always accepted. Proceeds will be donated to Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary which is a nature preserve and learning center, located in Sarona. August 21st Tuesday

The Barron Chambers 6th Annual Music in the Park, in conjunction with Business & Industry Appreciation Day, concludes Tuesday at 6p with R Country Gals. The event is rain or shine. Bring your own lawn chair. Food served by Barron Federated Music Club starting at 6:30p. There is no charge for the concert.


August 21st-23rd Tuesday-Thursday

Harry Potter fans entering grades 4-10, you can attend Wizarding Academy at UW-Eau Claire-Barron County in Rice Lake. Get Sorted into your House, play muggle Quidditch, test your Harry Potter knowledge with trivia and quizzes, receive OWL post from your favorite Harry Potter characters, and compete for the House Cup-earn points by solving clues and riddles that will test your wits and logic! The $149 fee includes lunches, t-shirt, wand and wizarding supplies. The Wizarding Academy runs Tuesday-Thursday from 9a-4p. You can save $10 on the registration fee if you enroll by August 1st.

August 22nd Wednesday

The American Legion Burger Night is on Wednesday from 5p-7p at the Rice Lake Veterans Center. Menu includes burgers, wings, shrimp, fries, and onion rings. The bar opens at 4p daily. The public is always welcome.


August 27th Monday

The Rice Lake Public Library will host “Genealogy Rocks! Getting Started on YOUR family history” with Gloria Dobberfuhl from the Blue Hills Genealogical Society at 2:00pm.  Whether you're just beginning or have been working on your family history for a while come learn tips, and helpful ideas that can help you move along in your search.
