Through April

The Barron County Department of Health & Human Services-Public Health Programs offers immunizations through the Wisconsin Vaccine for Children Program. Children who are VFC eligible include children through age 18 who are BadgerCare (Medicaid) eligible, children who are uninsured, American Indian or Alaska native children, and underinsured children. Immunizations provided free of charge. For more info call Public Health at 715-537-5691 ext. 6442.


Through April

The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood or platelets during National Volunteer Month this April. Eligible donors of all blood types – especially type O – are needed to help ensure blood products are available for patients this spring. Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information.

April 15th Monday

The Haugen Ball Park Association’s 25th Annual Spaghetti Feed is at Cousins Hideaway on Monday from 5p-8p. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages six-twelve, with kids under five free for this all-you-can-eat meal. Numerous door prizes and raffle items available.  All proceeds will be used to maintain and operate the Haugen Ball Park.


April 18th Thursday

Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary will be hosting Birds and Beer at the Isle Theater at Nezzy’s Sports Bar and Grill in Cumberland. This month’s topic is Bird Migration with bird bander Jim Bryce. Registration starts at 5:30p. The program starts at 6p. Registration is recommended because of limited space. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. April 20th Saturday

The Benefit for Baby Kaydence is at Pokegama Lakeside in Chetek on Saturday from Noon-5p. The day includes a 50/50 board, silent auction, raffles, gun raffles, and a meat raffle. For more info about the event or to donate call Erica at 715-931-0389.

UWEC-BC will host Walleye Fishing Techniques on Thursdays April 25th-May 9th. The three part series will cover beginning and more advanced techniques to catch the elusive walleye. Cost is $49 and includes materials for making a walleye ring. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required by April 20th. April 22nd Monday

The ADRC presents Healthy Living with Diabetes. This workshop teaches you ways to manage diabetes through a variety of researched and proven techniques. The workshop compliments existing treatment programs by building skills like incorporating healthy eating and exercise into daily life. The workshop also covers ways to manage stress and fatigue, and how to develop better ways to problem-solve and communicate with doctors and family members. This workshop meets weekly for six weeks. April 23rd Tuesday

Please join the Rice Lake Lodge #1441 Leadership Team and members of Elks as they honor members and community leaders at the annual Community Awards Banquet on Tuesday, April 30th. Social hour at 6p followed by dinner and awards at 6:30p. The cost of the dinner is $15 per person including tax and tip. Reservations are encouraged by April 23rd. April 24th Wednesday

The American Legion Burger Night at the Rice Lake Veterans Center is from 5p-7p. Menu includes burgers, wings, shrimp, fries, and onion rings. The public is welcome.


April 25th Thursday

The Golden “K” Spaghetti Dinner is on Thursday from 4:30p-7p at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake. Cost is $8 for adults. $4 for kids five-thirteen, and under five are free.


April 27th Saturday

UWEC-BC presents a Painted Barn Quilt Workshop on Saturday. Create your own 2'x2' or 4'x4' painted barn quilt to display on your house, barn, shed, fence, out house, porch or interior! All supplies are provided in the registration fee, lunch is NOT (brown-bag is recommended). The workshop is from 8:30a-4:30p. Cost for a 2x2 is $64 and a 4x4 costs $94. April 27th Saturday

The Washburn County Area Humane Society's Annual “Pins for Pets” 9-Pin Tap Bowling Fundraiser will be held on Saturday at Northwoods Lanes and Lounge, located in Spooner.

The bowling registration fee will be $20, which includes 3 games of bowling, shoes, ball, snacks, a donation to WCAHS, and the fun of bowling for a great cause.  Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day for many great prizes with the drawing being held at 7p. Need not be present to win. Bowlers of all ages and skill levels are welcome.  Pre-registration is suggested and this may be done by calling Northwoods Lanes at 715-939-1203, or by stopping at the alley to sign-up. Bowlers may also register to bowl on the day of the event if there are still openings left.


April 30th Tuesday

The community education department of Birchwood School will host their Healthy Living Fair on Tuesday from 3:45p-6:30p. This free event is open to all ages in the community. Participants can receive free information about health and healthy living and receive free giveaways.

UWEC-BC invites you to Belly Dance Fusion starting on Thursday at 5:30p Celebrate your creative energy and your connection with others. Improve fitness and lift spirits with belly dance! Learn the basic belly dance technique, posturing, language and move execution. Fusion Belly Dance uses movements from a mixture of cultures and styles. Belly Dance is a gentle, challenging and playful exercise for all ages. No dance experience is required. Classes are Thursday, May 2nd-23rd, from 5:30p-6:30p. Cost is $39.


May 5th Sunday

The American Legion Breakfast Buffet is at the Rice Lake Veterans Center on Sunday from 8a-11a. All you care to eat biscuits & gravy, waffles, bacon, and more. The public is welcome.


May 11th Saturday

The Shell Lake Community Center will host the Potter Family Benefit on Saturday from 4p-8p. A spaghetti dinner will be served for a free will offering. Paddle and silent auction, gun board, and more. Funds raised will be used to help cover medical costs.
