Authorities Bust Multi-county Burglary Ring

Wednesday October 14th, 2020 - Authorities in Sawyer County arrested three people believed to be a part of a multicounty burglary ring. 


On October 8th, just after 3am, Sawyer County Deputies assisted the City of Hayward and LCO Police Departments in responding to a burglary in progress at the Black Iron Bar and Grill in the Town of Spider Lake. 


Upon arrival deputies learned of two suspects in masks attempting to break into the bar. The suspects fled when the owner arrived. 


Other responding deputies observed a vehicle leaving the area and later were able to locate that vehicle parked on a near-by road. After questioning the occupants deputies determined that they were involved in the robbery and were attempting to pick up the two suspects that fled which led to their apprehension. 


Arrested were 65 year old Larry Rush of Park Falls and 28 year old Steven Martin of Success, Arizona. Both men were charged with numerous crimes including Burglary, Theft, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of Methamphetamine. 


Deputies also arrested 56 year old Vicki Hirtreiter of Park Falls. She was charged with numerous crimes including Party to the Crime of Burglary and Possession of Methamphetamine. 


The suspects are likely associated with other burglaries in Sawyer, Ashland, Price, and Iron Counties. 


The case remains under investigation.
