In efforts to keep drugs out of the hands of students, areas schools have requested the Barron County Sheriff’s Department K9 division to conduct random drug searches.

Two searches took place Wednesday, Oct. 27, in New Auburn and Prairie Farm schools. No drugs were found in either school building, however the K9 did alert to a vehicle at the New Auburn School. A search of the car found 1.5 grams of marijuana and a marijuana pipe.

A 17-year-old New Auburn student was questioned, ticketed and released to his parents.
