Budget Cuts Cause 17-Minute Delay for Firefighters in Rice Lake

Just before 1215am this morning, the Rice Lake Fire Department responded to a house fire at 920 South Main Street, but due to recent fire department staffing cuts imposed by the Rice Lake City Council, the firefighters had to wait for nearly 17 minutes before enough on-call personnel could arrive on scene to enter the home to fight the fire. The fire was confined to the basement of the home, however, there was smoke damage throughout the structure. Thankfully, nobody was injured despite the 17 minute delay, and the cause of this fire is under investigation by RLFD at this time.  Preliminary dollar loss has not been determined at this time.
