Charges have been filed against an Almena man in connection with a one-car accident early Monday morning.

The crash happened on 13th Avenue east of 7th Street in Clinton Township, south of Almena, just after 1230am Monday. When Barron County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene, they found a man trapped in the vehicle, but learned the driver of the car had fled to his home which was located nearby.

The passenger, 24-year old Rene Linares of Almena, was extracted by Almena Fire Department and flown out with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies went to the drivers house and arrested 30-year old Dionisio Torres-Mendez of Almena and arrested him for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, operating while revoked and failure to notify police of accident, and a warrant out of St Croix County. More charges are pending according to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald.
