Fatal Two Vehicle Crash in Polk County

Friday October 9th, 2020 - One person is dead following a two vehicle crash in Polk County. On Thursday, at just after 11:30am, the Polk County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Mains Crossing Avenue and 70th Street in the Town of Apple River.

The initial investigation shows that an SUV was traveling northbound on 70th Street when it failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a minivan traveling eastbound. The female passenger of the minivan died at the scene. The male driver of the van sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a Minnesota hospital where he remains in critical condition. The lone occupant of the SUV also sustained injuries. Inattentive driving by the operator of the SUV is believed to have caused the crash which remains under investigation.

The names of those involved are being withheld at this time.
