Thursday, November 12 -- Residents in Vernon County are holding their noses while a massive manure spill is being cleared up. The DNR says some 3,000 gallons of manure that had been applied by Mlsna East Town Dairy ran off its land and into a tributary of Knapp Creek east of Westby on October 30. The manure flowed down the smaller creek into the Knapp, which is itself a tributary of the Kickapoo River. DNR staff immediately observed scores of dead fish in the smaller creek as well as the Knapp.
