Shots Fired During Domestic Abuse Incident in Barron County

Wednesday April 7th, 2021 - One person is in custody following a domestic abuse incident with shots fired in Barron County.

On Monday, just before 3pm, the Barron County Sheriff's Department received a call of a domestic abuse incident taking place just east of the City of Rice Lake.

The report was a possible hostage situation with several confirmed gunshots. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department, WI State Patrol, WI DNR, Rice Lake Police Department, and the Barron/Rusk Emergency Response Team responded to the scene.

Authorities were unable to establish phone contact so they used the armored vehicle to approach the house. A male subject was taken into custody without further incident. The female in the residence was interviewed and released.

The case remains under investigation.
