Monday July 27, 2020 - A wild, multi-county police chase ends with the suspect behind bars. On July 22, shortly before 2:30pm, the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a pursuit headed towards Washburn County on Highway 70 in Sawyer County. The criminal complaint filed in Washburn County Circuit Court against the driver of the vehicle, Jason Arnold,  states that Arnold had active arrest warrants and had recently been arrested following a standoff with law enforcement to which the Washburn County SWAT team responded.

All available Washburn County Sheriff’s units responded to intercept the pursuit of Arnold which was being conducted by approximately 10 Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol squad vehicles.

During the pursuit Arnold reached speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour, went through a hay field, traveled the wrong way down highway 53, drove his vehicle head on towards squad cars, and twice evaded spike strips. The third time officers deployed spike strips was a success, deflating the tires on Arnold's vehicle. Arnold then drove head on into a squad car and was apprehended.

Arnold was charged with 2 counts of Felony First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Felony Battery to a Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Reckless Driving Causing Great Bodily Harm, and Attempting to Flee or Elude and Officer.

The Court placed Arnold on a $50,000 cash bond.
