Town Hall Referendum in Hayward Today

Tuesday, November 5, 2019 - Residents in the town of Hayward go to the polls today to vote on a referendum to help pay for a new town hall.  The project is estimated to cost $5 million, which, for an average home, would mean paying $150 a year for a total of 10 years.  The fire department, highway department, police department, and town offices are all located at the Hayward Town Hall.  Town officials say the building is too small to house the different departments, and the 55-year-old building is beginning to deteriorate.  Hayward officials say it makes more sense to a build a new facility rather than upgrading their current one, being that it would cost around $2 million alone to bring their current facility up to code.  Polls are open in Hayward today from 7am to 8pm.
